Christie Charles
Class of 2023
Christie Charles joins GHD after seven years of diverse experience working in the public sector, and English language education. She has spent the last few years working in grants management with the federal government and an international NGO managing multi-million dollar awards. Prior to that experience, she was an English Educator. She was a Peace Corps Master’s International student studying TESOL at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. She started teaching English during an internship in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. She also served in the Peace Corps as an English Language Advisor at a Teacher’s College in Ethiopia. During her service, she provided project management and language training to students and faculty and implemented an English Lab. She also worked with students in the local primary and secondary schools providing gender bias training and promoting girls’ empowerment with some of the most inspiring students. Following her Peace Corps service, Christie was awarded the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant in Côte d'Ivoire where she worked with exceptional students and staff at an all-girls school in Bingerville. These grassroots experiences influenced her to work in development to help bring sustainable change in communities of color.
Christie holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business from Howard University. She is a 2020 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellow and will join the Department of State Foreign Service upon graduation. As a GHD student, Christie is interested in exploring the International Business Diplomacy certificate and the Education and Human Capital specialization.
