Working across the M&E Spectrum in Uganda and Vietnam
This summer, I had the opportunity to work with two organizations on monitoring and evaluation (M&E): Social Impact (SI) and The Recreation Project (TRP). I supported SI’s implementation of the USAID/Vietnam Learns program, a five-year contract to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of USAID/Vietnam’s interventions. I generated a template for monitoring, evaluation, and learning plans (MELPs) for activities under USAID/Vietnam’s purview, reviewed and graded MELPs, assisted with data quality assessments, provided research for learning activities, and created a summary of a research report on wildlife trafficking in Vietnam. For TRP, I supported the design of an M&E system for youth life skills projects in Gulu, Uganda. I helped redesign the theory of change, researched and designed indicators to measure outputs and outcomes, identified tools for monitoring indicators, designed an evaluation framework to measure intermediate and long-term outcomes, and wrote a do-file for data merging and cleaning in Stata.
