Nora Hammond is a native of Palm Springs, California and a graduate of the University of California – Berkeley where she studied political science and minored in human rights and Middle Eastern studies. She spent the year prior to GHD working as a Grants and Programs Fellow at the International Rescue Committee in Nairobi, Kenya where she focused on providing support to the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya. Prior to that, she lived in Washington, D.C. where she most recently worked as a proposal manager for an international development and research institution. She first became interested in refugees while she studied abroad at the American University in Cairo where she attended classes at the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies and tutored refugees. While at GHD, she hopes to gain more experience in monitoring and evaluation, quantitative analysis, and responding to humanitarian emergencies.
