Varsha Thebo comes from a rural area in the Sindh province of Pakistan. Since there were no proper schools in her area, she taught herself English and Mathematics and eventually became the one and only recipient of Global Leadership Scholarship from Pakistan. She studied at Agnes Scott College in the United States where she completed her bachelors in Public Health and English Literature with a minor in Business Administration. Varsha organized informal study circles for other young girls in the village and actively advocated against the barbaric practices of honor killing and child marriages in the rural areas of Sindh. She has also worked with several international organizations in various positions, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Global Village Project, Katsikas Refugee Camps, The Harpswell Foundation, Deloitte and Prudential Financial. Varsha was a World Innovation Summit for Education Fellow through which she led a project to fight transphobia in Pakistan and Cambodia. She was a finalist for Schwarzman Scholars Program and is one of the 50 Pond’s Fellows chosen by Vital Voices. Varsha was one of the top ten winners from across the globe by the UNAI/UNHATE Foundation to promote interfaith harmony in rural Sindh by designing a curriculum and conducting workshops in the villages. Her interest areas are rural development, women empowerment, education, health economics and international development. Varsha is fluent in Urdu, Sindhi, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Arabic. Moreover, she thoroughly enjoys reading Persian and Spanish poetry. She is also proficient in Italian and a beginner in Tamil.
