Zaki Zakaria joins GHD after 3 years of experience in immigration law in Boston, MA. Zaki worked with attorneys to assist foreign nationals coming into the US obtain green cards either through specialized knowledge visas or through asylum/refugee status, there, he obtained extensive knowledge of the US immigration process. He volunteered time working with organizations such as KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) and the PAIR (Political Asylum and Immigration Representations) Project in order to continue helping the community through legal aid. Zaki also translated conversations and documents from French to English to assist clients understand all the intricate details of the immigration forms. Prior to working in immigration, Zaki obtained his bachelor’s degree in politics from Bates College in Lewiston, ME. At Bates, Zaki specialized in global governance and conflicts with a focus on Middle East and North Africa, he completed his senior thesis by analyzing the importance of constitutionalism in democracy through the case study of Pakistan. Zaki brings with him a wealth of global experience having lived in Mauritius, Pakistan and the US. His passion to pursue a master’s degree in global human development stemmed from his experience travelling to the town of Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan. This trip helped him better understand how USAID is developing education and infrastructure in the state. Zaki hopes to eventually continue working within that region to help continue and expand upon these projects. When not busy studying, Zaki can be found watching and playing soccer or basketball.
