Microfinance: A Growing Element in Development
I was lucky enough to spend the summer working as an Operations intern at FINCA Impact Finance, a network of community-based banks that provides innovative and impactful financial services to low-income individuals and communities with the goal of helping them build assets and invest in their future. My time was spent working with the head of Global Business Transformation in monitoring and analyzing operations data from FINCA’s network of 20 subsidiary banks all over the world. The work was vital in determining the position of the different subsidiaries in the face of Covid-19 and helping FINCA form impactful solutions to problems that have arisen from the pandemic. Microfinance continues to be an important and growing element of the development space, and the work I’ve done over the summer has given me great insight into how a microfinance institution operates in different parts of the world and during a global crisis.
