Developing a Playbook to Increase Parent Engagement in Education
With widespread school closures and transitions to virtual learning, this past academic year has, more than others, highlighted the importance of parents’ role in education. I have spent the last few months with Brookings’s Center for Universal Education as they finalize a playbook meant to help schools, education organizations, and governments promote parent engagement in their child’s learning. The playbook is meant to be a guide for any entity seeking to make parents more active partners in the education process. I worked alongside the rest of the team to help research, write, and review the different parts of the playbook as it was prepared for publication. I was particularly involved in the Case Study section, which highlighted over 30 examples of parent engagement from around the world. The work gave me the opportunity to both continue cultivating my interest in the education sector and gain valuable insight into the research world.
