Taylor Miller
USITC 2021 Internship Summary
For my summer internship, I worked at the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) as part of the Agriculture and Fisheries Division in the Office of Industries. I became increasingly interested in the impacts of trade on agriculture during my first two semesters in the GHD program and was excited to have the opportunity to gain experience related to agriculture from a government perspective. My primary research focused on an upstream price premium for cocoa set by the governments of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. I worked closely with the Office of Economics to create a partial-equilibrium model to understand the impacts of the premium on the US downstream chocolate industry. I also had the opportunity to be involved in projects regarding the US agricultural labor force as well as climate and trade topics. My internship was a great experience that allowed me to apply the economic concepts that we have been learning through GHD and to expand my knowledge of agriculture in development.
