Utilizing Policy Analysis in Advocacy Efforts for Forcibly Displaced Populations
This summer, I worked at the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) as a member of their Policy and Advocacy team. I was able to publish a variety of pieces over the course of my eleven-week internship, including several features in the biweekly Policy and Advocacy Reports, a country backgrounder on Cameroon, and a policy paper on the forced immobility of Yemen’s displaced population. While most of my research and writing focused on international topics, I was given the opportunity to dip my toes into some of the organization’s domestic work as well. Most notably, I collaborated on a research project that evaluated the disparities between state laws in sex and labor trafficking of minors that will hopefully culminate in an effective advocacy campaign. Overall, this internship allowed me to hone in on my academic interest in forced displacement in a professional and analytical setting.
