BID Lab Migration and Reintegration
The Migration Unit at the Inter-American Development bank acknowledges the potential and value that returned migrants have in their origin countries. This is why the Migration Unit and the Inter-American Development Bank are working to develop a program in partnership with the civil society, and the private sector to support returned migrants. Reintegration can be an overwhelming challenge for many returnees, and the BID Lab’s proposal includes important reintegration strategies as well as financial support programs for returnees in the Northern Triangle. Throughout my internship, I assisted the Migration Unit in the program design, edited proposal documents for the Northern Triangle programs, and participated in meetings with implementing partners. The program design phase has also included research and analysis on existing programs and identification of shortcomings and best practices of those programs. I hope to continue my professional relationship with the Migration Unit and the BID Lab and look forward to following the progress of their returnee support programs.
