Joon Park
Class of 2021
Joon Park joins GHD after five years of professional international experience. His most recent work was in South Korea, where he spent nearly two years teaching English to elementary school students. Joon developed his teaching skillset while serving as a Rural Education Development volunteer in Zambia through the Peace Corps. Within his village, he diligently collaborated with his local Zambian community by teaching English, reviewing disease prevention methods, advocating gender equality and promoting green farming techniques. Prior to going overseas, Joon worked as a junior editor for a translations company called Imani Lee Inc. One of his most notable projects centered on informing the U.S. Congress about the events of the Halabja Massacre, a part of the Kurdish genocide carried out by Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Originally born in South Korea, Joon immigrated to the United States at an early age. He graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with a B.A. in English Literature. Joon speaks English and Korean fluently and possesses moderate command of Mambwe, one of the main tribal languages of Zambia. At Georgetown, Joon hopes to hone his knowledge of sustainable international development as he pursues a career designed to tackle global poverty.
