Sunny Neelam
Class of 2021
Sunny Neelam joins GHD after five years of diverse professional work experience. During GHD, when interning for the World Bank's Global Practice of Agriculture and Food Security, he evaluated the Aajeevika project, launched by the Indian government's Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and WB-funded. He studied the scheme's role during the Covid 19 outbreak in Bihar, one of India's most backward states, with special focus on migrant workers and the livelihood opportunities, who hit the hardest perhaps.
With a bachelor's degree in engineering and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Marketing, Sunny Neelam has explored the world's most populous democracy—India. The diversity of its regions, religions, races, cultures, languages, traditions could well be a miniature portrait of the world itself. A bottom-up approach had him often starting from scratch with little or no backing at all.
Prior to GHD, he worked as a Business Analyst for a commodity trading firm for two years and then co-founded a social enterprise with which he worked for three years. Over the years, he worked and volunteered with various NGOs, including Barefoot college, Don Bosco Navjeevan, MKSS, and Science for Society. His areas of interest are Impact Investment, Social entrepreneurship, grassroots livelihood generation, ICT for development, SME sector, Frugal Innovations, Public-Private Partnership models, Renewable energy, and Decentralized economy.
