Ally Ryder graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double major in International Business and Finance, minoring in Anthropology, from Loyola University Chicago. Her interest in development stems from her work with refugees, research experience abroad and undergraduate training in international finance, small businesses and microcredit. A milestone in her undergraduate career was studying abroad through a research intensive Development Studies program in Kampala, Uganda. She was the first American intern at the Central Bank of Uganda. Working in the Financial Markets Division, she analyzed the impact of foreign currency exchange in the international political economy. She focused her capstone project, “Window to the Unbanked,” on the use of “mobile money” as a means of saving. Upon graduation, Ally began working as a business analyst at J.P. Morgan Chase in the Global Trade Finance Department. This position helped shape her understanding of what it means to work in the highly regulated environment of International Commerce. While in the GHD program, she plans to further develop her knowledge in order to service emerging markets and better understand the financial strategies needed to reach under-served populations.
