Responding to the Impact of COVID-19 on Global Food Security
I worked with the World Bank’s Food and Agriculture Global Practice to respond to and monitor emerging COVID-19-related food security issues. My work included the joint production of a weekly food security brief monitoring information on global markets, emerging food security issues and trends, domestic and international supply chains, food prices, labor and income, nutrition, policy developments and more. The dissemination list for these briefs included World Bank leadership, including managing directors and vice presidents, and stakeholders from USAID, the UN, and other groups. Independently, I monitored food price inflation and developed analytical models to understand risk factors or typology of high food inflation as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. I also authored a paper on COVID-19 and malnutrition and a conceptual framework outlining the various pathways of impact. This work aligned with my specialization in nutrition, food security, and humanitarian crises and was an excellent application of the quantitative and analytical skills, I’ve learned in the GHD program.
