Caleb Leseine, a Kenyan national, joins GHD after working for Kenya’s largest public water utility company, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company. He has a background in Civil Engineering and has been working in water and sanitation for the last three years. At the water company, he was part of the implementation team for the World Bank funded, “Nairobi sanitation Project” that sought to connect more than eight thousand households, living in eight of Nairobi’s informal settlements, to the city’s water and sewerage system. Prior to that, he worked for the county government of Machakos to provide water to the rural population of one of its largest districts. As an undergraduate, Caleb discovered his passion for development work while volunteering and leading a student initiative that endeavored to improve learning outcomes at a primary school in rural Kenya. He facilitated the construction of four classrooms and a staff room, installation of solar power at the school and the hiring of two teachers for a one-year period. Caleb is interested in the role of public institutions in development. At GHD, he intends to concentrate on infrastructure development especially as it relates to water and sanitation in developing countries like Kenya. Caleb is fluent in Swahili and is looking forward to continue to learn French during his time at Georgetown.
