Amplifying Young Voices in the MENA Region
Over the summer, I worked with Save the Children in Jordan within their Media & Communications Department. A majority of my time was spent in Za’atari Refugee Camp, conducting interviews with young Syrian refugees and gathering content, such as photo and videos, to showcase Save’s programs on their social media platforms and website. Other activities included working with the Director of Programs and program teams to develop a Communications and Marketing Strategy that was in line with their 2022-2024 Strategic Framework. Lastly, I led a regional focus group discussion on climate change with refugee girls from Jordan and around the MENA region. Participants came up with creative ideas on how children can be leaders on climate issues, which will be shared in the UN COP27.
My favorite part of the summer was meeting a talented 16-year-old girl living in Za’atari Camp who writes songs about girls’ rights. One incredible story she shared with me was her rapping one of her songs against child marriage in the middle of a wedding shop at the camp!
