Envisioning a Strategy for World Bank Engagement with Digital Health Tools
This summer I worked with the Innovation in Healthcare Service Delivery team within the Health, Nutrition, and Population General Practice at the World Bank. The team focuses on bringing technology, human-centered design, and systems thinking into World Bank health programs in an effort to improve health outcomes. They do so by providing tailored technical guidance and financial resources to World Bank country teams. Over the summer, I developed a strategy for World Bank engagement with digital health tools, primarily open-source software, and the communities of practice that support them. The strategy was informed by a series of key informant interviews I conducted with both internal health specialists and external digital health experts—in addition to my personal experience in digital health implementation—and consists of best practices for program design and implementation, funding opportunities for the World Bank, and a roadmap for future engagement and research.
