Ellie McDonald
Class of 2023
Ellie’s motivation to study Global Human Development at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service stems from her passion for international human rights and social and economic justice. She strives to marry her business experience with development through the practical learning experiences the GHD program offers.
Before joining the GHD program, Ellie was a strategy consultant and project manager focused on alleviating global poverty and injustice. Ellie was the Human Rights Program Manager on Target's Corporate Responsibility team, where she worked with Fortune 40 companies to develop sustainable and ethical social impact solutions to gender-based violence and forced labor in supply chains across the globe. Outside of Target, Ellie worked with national and international organizations that empower women and entrepreneurs in developing communities, such as CARE Social Ventures, Nest Professional Fellows, and the Jeremiah Program.
Ellie graduated with honors from the University of Iowa in 2015 with a degree in Journalism & Mass Communication focused in Spanish and Art History, along with a certificate in Entrepreneurial Management. Ellie’s senior thesis focused on institutional racism at the University of Iowa and Iowa City community. Ellie loves to travel and cook, and looks forward to combining her love of food with her work in the human rights and development field.
