Eric Chu was born in Minnesota and grew up in Taiwan. Prior to GHD, he was the China Research Coordinator for the University of Minnesota in Nanning, China and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda. Eric is interested in the intersection between science and development in areas such as climate change mitigation, STEM education, and global health as well as the impact of nontraditional donors on development. He first became inspired to work as an development practitioner in central Uganda. Eric trained future primary school teachers to improve teaching methodology and incorporate literacy teaching practices into difference subjects at a teachers college, in addition to advising the school’s English club and teaching computer lessons. He led the initiation and organization of Uganda Spelling Bee competitions in central Uganda. In China, Eric managed the health research collaborations between American and Chinese researchers at the Guangxi provincial center for disease control and prevention. Eric graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in plant biology. He is a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow and will be joining the U.S. Foreign Service following graduation. Eric is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, proficient in Norwegian and Luganda, and learning French.
