Building Peace in South Sudan
This summer, I interned with the Stabilization & Transition Practice at DT Global. Predominantly, I supported the Program Management Unit for the USAID-funded Shejeh Salam (Promoting Peace) Activity in South Sudan by facilitating weekly meetings with the chief of party and editing the Activity’s Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Analysis, among other responsibilities. I also designed a workshop for Shejeh Salam’s Strategic Review Session in Juba that leveraged countering violent extremism and gang violence case studies from the DRC, El Salvador, and Kenya to glean relevant applications for understanding and addressing the environment of violence in South Sudan. In addition, I attended key industry events on religious discrimination during crises and humanitarian operations in Syria. On top of learning more about USAID program implementation, my internship advanced my technical grasp of state fragility and post-conflict reconstruction and will significantly bolster my pursuit of GHD’s Humanitarian Crises and Displacement Specialization.
