Mobilizing Communities for Girls' Education in India
This summer of 2022, I was working at Educate Girls in India, which is a non-profit that focuses on mobilizing communities for girls’ education in India’s rural and educationally backward areas. Their goal is to improve access and quality of education for over 15 million children cumulatively by 2024. I was supporting them to create a qualitative evaluation of how the 20 thousand field volunteers feel supported in the rural areas and how Educate Girls can better assist them. These volunteers are crucial for the success of the organization, and they had no oversight on how they were doing. A very important component was building the capacity of the local staff to sustain the initiative further beyond my internship. It was a great opportunity to understand the challenges of girls' education in rural areas and the power of community mobilization. Moreover, living in India was a life changing experience, both professionally and personally.
