Improving the Visibility of Existing Gender Gaps Using Data
This summer I interned with the Gender Data Team at the World Bank, whose responsibilities centered on the bank’s Gender Data Portal work. I was on-boarded to the team to support the portal revamp work. In just 11 weeks I gained numerous valuable experiences, such as analyzing gender data databases and country profiles; creating a catalog of gender data databases and indices; assessing World Development Indicators that can be sex-disaggregated and potentially could be incorporated into the bank’s Gender Data Portal; conducting studies on whether WBG gender data blogs drive traffic to the Gender Data Portal utilizing descriptive trends and event study methods; and updating gender gaps talking points on a few development areas. This internship complements my study at GHD, as I acquired new skills to conduct statistical studies and I had the opportunity to utilize statistical and visualization tools that I learned from GHD in the professional setting.
