Hermella Mathewos
Class of 2024
Hermella Mathewos joins GHD after 6 years of experience in Foreign Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. In her career as a foreign service officer, she has worked in the Peace and Security department of the Ethiopian Permanent Mission to the African Union, the Trans-boundary resources department (Nile Affairs), Diaspora Affairs and Investment Promotion department.
Hermella is proud to have worked on various campaigns of Ethiopian candidates for UN Leadership roles one of which was the campaign for former Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Tedros Adhanom-Director General of the World Health Organization. She has served in Ethiopia’s Diplomatic Missions in the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria. Currently, she is serving at the Ethiopian Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Hermella has a background in Political Science and International Relations. She joined the Ethiopian Foreign Service Training Institute shortly after graduating as an honors student from the Addis Ababa University. At GHD, she hopes to explore Socio-economic and Development solutions in the pursuit of sustainable global peace and security. She is proficient in Amharic and has experience in very basic Hausa, Arabic and French. In her spare time, Hermella can be found studying Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Theology and playing music.
