Conceptualizing an Approach to Youth Employment Programming in South Asia
Over the summer, I was fortunate to do my internship with the Adolescent, Skills, and Employability unit of UNICEF’s Regional Office for South Asia in Kathmandu, Nepal. I led the conceptualization of a “Signature Programming” framework that will guide UNICEF’s youth employment programming in the region – an emerging area of interest. Lessons from my microeconomics and jobs, development, and workers classes were immediately valuable and helped give me a solid foundation to complete my tasks. In addition, I participated in several activities such as ministerial conferences (where I participated as a speaker!), led a literature review and subsequent validation meetings, and collaborated with UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited programming team. Overall, it was a great experience that GHD unlocked for me and helped me understand what I want to do and where I can contribute as an aspiring development professional.
