Kamilla Zakirova
Food and Agriculture Global Practice, Climate Smart Agriculture Team, World Bank
My summer internship has been with the World Bank's Food and Agriculture Global Practice, specifically with its Climate Smart Agriculture team. Working in a small team allowed me to be closely involved in discussions and to lead certain initiatives. For example, I contributed to planning the World Bank's participation in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). I liaised with different World Bank teams and external partner organizations, and I helped showcase World Bank-financed climate-smart agriculture projects. My background from the Food and Agriculture in Development course from Georgetown has been especially instrumental as it allowed me to actively participate in discussions and to contribute with ideas. This internship afforded me an opportunity to understand in practice how global climate change is affecting agriculture and food production, and how countries can better adapt their agricultural practices to better cope with the unprecedented challenges that global climate change presents.
