Liam Madden
Class of 2026
Liam Madden grew up in the small town of Douglas, Massachusetts. After graduating from Boston College with a B.A. in economics and international studies, which included studying and interning in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, Liam worked for two years in Washington, DC, for the National Democratic Institute and PartnersGlobal, with a focus on democracy and governance programming.
For the past three years, Liam has been working with UNICEF Sudan, initially as a planning officer and for the past two years as a program officer and special assistant to the deputy representative. In this role, Liam supports the coordination and management of UNICEF’s country program through the strategic initiatives of the organization's senior management. Liam was based in Khartoum until April 2023, when the ongoing civil war forced United Nations (UN) staff to evacuate the capital. Liam rejoined the office in Port Sudan shortly after, and has been working there since to support UNICEF’s emergency response.
Liam’s interests in the development sector range from the use of data in emergency response to social protection programming and public financial management. He wants to gain the skills to create more country-led and sustainable public service systems.
Liam is excited about coming back to DC and getting to know the city with others just coming for the first time.
