Linh Nguyen
Class of 2026
Linh Nguyễn is originally from New England and graduated from Sacred Heart University with a bachelor’s in health science for healthcare administration. During her time at Sacred Heart, Linh was heavily involved in her university’s community outreach initiatives and global service learning programs. Her interest in community engagement, international development, and humanitarian aid was strengthened by her experiences working in an urban after-school mentoring program, studying global health in rural India, participating in a cultural immersion program in southern Vietnam, and attending the Oxford Consortium for Human Rights in New York City.
After graduating, Linh served as a Jesuit Volunteer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, where she taught high school science, college counseling, and organized campus ministry functions. Her time in Chuuk reaffirmed her desire to pursue a career path with an international focus and to work with underserved communities. Upon returning to the United States, Linh wanted to deepen her understanding on intergenerational trauma and its impacts on different groups of displaced persons. This led her to various service-based opportunities such as community organizing around the issues of migrant labor unions and deportation of Southeast Asians, volunteering with Afghan refugees awaiting resettlement on a U.S. army base, and visiting encampments along the U.S.-Mexico border. Most recently, Linh worked as a case manager at a transitional housing shelter for Central and South American asylum seekers in Oakland, California, where she lived alongside and accompanied newly arrived families throughout their integration process.
Linh’s lived experiences as a daughter of Vietnamese refugees, her formation in Jesuit values, and her background in human service inform her worldview and approach to encountering others in the work for global justice. She is fluent in Vietnamese and is working towards proficiency in Spanish. Determined to build upon what she’s learned at the grassroots level, Linh is excited to join the GHD program where she hopes to gain practical skills as well as different perspectives on pressing global issues.
