Megha Pande
Class of 2024
Born and raised in Nepal, Megha has been drawn into international development through her volunteering and professional experiences. As a development practitioner in the making, she believes that international issues need to be addressed jointly and simultaneously, with the spirit of global solidarity. Each individual has to be part of the solution and work towards addressing these issues.
Previously, Megha worked as a Business Associate at Biruwa Advisors in Nepal. At Biruwa, she was primarily involved in Private Sector Development (PSD) projects, through which she got the opportunity to support vulnerable and marginalized groups in Nepal. The projects she was involved in focused on reducing unemployment, strengthening rural entrepreneurship, and engaging the private sector to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She also spent three months in the rural Nepali community of Duwadi Suwara, volunteering with the UK Government-funded International Citizen Service. There, she supported the diversification of livelihood among rural farmers through agrotechnical support and entrepreneurial training. She graduated from Kathmandu University School of Management with a bachelor's degree in business administration (Honors).
Megha is excited about the GHD program and how it will transform her into a competent and collaborative development practitioner capable of bringing boundless ideas and fresh perspectives to future professional experiences. She firmly believes that the knowledge and skills she will acquire through the Global Human Development Program, coupled with her private sector orientation, will prepare her to excel in the development field.
Summer Internship Experience
International Organization for Migration (IOM), The Gambia
This summer I had the opportunity to work with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, in The Gambia as a Programme Support Intern. During my time with the Programme Support Unit, I was entrusted with the task of coordinating with the Migration Health Unit (MHU) and the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) unit to gather input, align objectives, and enhance proposal contents, and conduct rapid assessments to support the development of new programs. One of my most insightful experience was being able to provide support to the AVRR unit in providing post-arrival and reintegration assistance supports to voluntarily returning migrants from Libya and Niger. This provided me with the opportunity to observe the operational and programmatic aspects of some of the IOM’s work on the ground. I also got the opportunity to engage with IOM’s project participants on an individual level while simultaneously being involved in designing projects that have the potential to impact a large number of migrant returnees and host communities in The Gambia and being able to do both in the short period I was there for was truly remarkable.
My internship with IOM was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. It allowed me to learn about IOM’s work in promoting humane and orderly migration, and collaborate with diverse teams while discovering my own capabilities, strengths, and areas of further improvement.
