Pelumi Fadare
Summer internship in Youth Development
Over the summer, I undertook two internships: one at the Rising Academies & Omega Schools in Accra, Ghana, and the other with the Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory team of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank. During my 12 weeks internship with Rising Academies, I supported the project proposal for the Ghana Education Outcomes Fund (EOF) Program under the Ghanaian government Accountability for Learning Programme (GALOP) targeting 10,000 students in Accra and the Northern Region of Ghana. I piloted an education technology solution called Rori, serving as a chatbot tutor for junior high students in low-income communities in 33 schools. The chatbot provides math content with the goal to significantly improve students' academic performance and foundational math skills.
Through my work at the IFC, I designed a youth engagement strategy and identified case studies in support of the creation of a youth advisory board, with guidelines for how to involve youth and deliver youth economic empowerment programs in the infrastructure and natural resources sector, specifically for hydropower, mining and other renewable energy companies. I revised and proofread documents for publication and draft reports providing gap analysis and assessments of how youth can be an asset for companies in such industries. Lastly, I supported the organization of the Annual Sustainability Exchange.
