Romeo Arahan, from the Philippines, joins the GHD Program after six years of experience in the development sector. He was a senior program officer for Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc., a consulting firm that provides training, research, and consulting services to development stakeholders in the fields of microfinance, social entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion. During his stint, he provided technical and capacity building services to microfinance institutions to ensure financial inclusion of poor farmers, as well as providing financial education to primary stakeholders. He was also part of a pool of trainers for the Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship Program of the Ateneo School of Government, where he taught topics on financial literacy and social entrepreneurship in countries with high concentration of Filipino workers in Asia. Concurrently, he served as the program manager of the firm’s development financing arm, mobilizing socially responsible investments and managing its microfinance program. His passion for development stems from his personal experience of poverty. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Ateneo de Manila University. For his senior thesis, he applied Marxian theory to account for the undocumented overseas Filipino workers and analyzed the impact of government policy in the ongoing diaspora of Filipinos. During his time at Georgetown, he aims to learn more on international migration, social innovation, and quantitative analysis and research.
