Shea Flynn joins the GHD program after almost three years at RTI International working on USAID’s flagship neglected tropical disease project called ENVISION. During her time at RTI as a Project Coordinator, Shea helped organize regional trainings of trainers for Ministry of Health officials on the Tropical Data system for trachoma surveys, initiated health systems strengthening activities to research the integration of NTD treatment and prevention into national systems, and founded and co-led an employee resource group focused on women’s professional advancement and leadership. Prior to working at RTI International, Shea served two years with the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa as a community health specialist. Her main projects in Togo included establishing a Care Group focused on women’s empowerment and health education, creating a youth health club, and managing a grant for the construction of a school latrine and hand washing stations. During her time in Togo, Shea also acted as the Media Specialist for the Pathways Togo, a non-profit that provides education scholarships and leadership training to young Togolese girls that demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Shea currently sits on the Pathways Togo Board of Directors and produces their annual report. Shea graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. Advertising and a Business Foundations certificate. Shea speaks French, is an aspiring photographer, and takes special interest in sustainability and capacity strengthening.
