Class of 2023
Topaz joins the GHD program after three years of program management experience at various policy institutions. Most recently, she worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) where she coordinated events and supported the Africa Program’s research agenda to advance U.S. policy toward Africa. Her research there covered the economic and political implications of Covid-19 in sub-Saharan Africa, the future of digital currencies in the region, and African leadership on climate change. She also joined a humanitarian access case study trip to Nigeria. Prior to CSIS, Topaz worked at the Brookings Institution’s executive education wing. During this time, she became a senior fellow with Humanity in Action and later worked on a project to provide a built reading space for children in Bunyala, Kenya during the pandemic. Born and raised in Nairobi, Topaz earned a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Political Science from Mount Holyoke College in 2018. Topaz is excited to deepen her knowledge of economic development, while she focuses on Africa’s digital transformation and learns French at Georgetown.
