Trey’s passions for cross-cultural collaboration and international development were cultivated in high school. For four years, he attended the Center for Global Studies, an interdistrict magnet school dedicated to raising students to become active global citizens.

In 2020, Trey graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Anthropology. As an undergraduate, he studied abroad in Bali and Java, where, in addition to learning Indonesian, he conducted research for his senior social volcanology thesis. With the goal of achieving proficiency, he returned to Indonesia in Summer 2019 through the Critical Language Scholarship.

For the 2021-2022 academic year, Trey served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Bokhtar, Tajikistan. There, he taught students in the country’s American Spaces and through the Department of State’s English Access Microscholarship Program. Alongside a team of other Central Asian ETAs, Trey also developed and facilitated interactive media literacy workshops in Qarshi and Kokand, Uzbekistan.

Most recently, Trey was a 2023-2024 Fulbright Student Researcher in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where he studied public perceptions of volcanoes, examining how community dynamics affect hazard mitigation efforts and locally-driven disaster management practices.

As a Payne Fellow, Trey will join the USAID Foreign Service after graduation. In his professional career, he hopes to contribute to the creation of sustainable and culturally-conscious development initiatives to increase communities’ educational capacities worldwide. In his free time, Trey enjoys theater, scuba diving, and hosting dinner parties.
