Yabsera Bekele
Class of 2023
Yabsera Bekele was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and currently resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. She completed her undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Politics and International Affairs and double minors in the Middle East and South Asia studies and Religious studies. She has held numerous leadership positions during her time in undergrad including serving as a Global Ambassador, Vice President, and Community Service Chair of the African and Caribbean Student Association, and interned at the International Law Institute in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, her love for intercultural engagement, learning, and travel has allowed her to travel far and wide. She has conducted independent research regarding China’s rise across Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal with previous study abroad engagement in India. She has also conducted independent research in Egypt where she studied Islam and Coptic Christianity followed by Arabic studies in Morocco. She has also traveled to Thailand and Kenya for global service projects where she took part in advancing sustainable development efforts. At Georgetown, Yabsera is excited to continue her language learning, gain practical skillsets both in and outside the classroom and learn from the diverse experiences of her classmates and professors.
